Dog Leads Firefighters to the Scene of His Owner’s Accident

A dog named, Simon, lead firefighters to the scene of an auto accident in Davies, Florida, where his owner was fatally injured.

On the night of Saturday, March 10, 41 year-old, Gregory Todd Travers, was out for a drive with Simon, his 4 year-old spotted German shepherd. They were driving on State Road 84 in Davie. During the trip, Gregory crashed into a bridge support. The vehicle rolled over, and Gregory was ejected from the car.

Firefighters arrived to look for the crash, but couldn't initially find it. While they were searching, Simon appeared, limping in front of them. They followed him for nearly a quarter mile and eventually arrived at the scene of the accident. Simon licked his owner, circled him twice, and then returned to the vehicle where he sat and waited.

Davie Battalion Chief, Robert Belizaire said, "I think the dog definitely meant to lead them there. I think he was out there looking for some help."

Gregory died at the scene of the accident. Simon was then taken to a Broward County animal shelter. He was later released to Gregory's wife.

Lisa Mendheim, a representative of the animal shelter, said, "the dog is back home." Tragically, the owner he loved isn't with him.
