An accident involving a dump truck in Miami-Dade resulted in the death of 20 year-old, Eric Stephen Gonzales.
At around 5 in the morning on February 24th, Gonzales was driving a 2008 Nissan when he collided with a dump truck in the southwest corner of 87th Avenue and 48th Street. During the accident, the Nissan flipped over and was caught underneath the dump truck.
The truck went off the road into the lawn of a house near the intersection, narrowly missing the building. The truck went up in flames. The dump truck driver was reported as trying to put out the fire. When police arrived and the fire was extinguished, they discovered that Gonzales was still in the car trapped underneath the dump truck. He was dead.
The dump truck driver, 59 year-old, William Agreda, suffered only minor injuries. The wreckage had to be removed with cranes.
It is presently unclear who was at fault for the accident. A representative of the Florida Waste Management Inc. told the press, "we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased. The accident is under investigation by Miami-Dade Police. Our driver, who was treated for minor injuries and released, and our safety team are cooperating fully with the investigation."
